All Blue Everything

the blue pearl | morocco

The Seal of Solomon is everywhere I turn in Chefchaouen along with cats, kief and the color blue. Shortly after the birth of this place, refugees arrived from Spain escaping that crazy Inquisition. Solomon’s sign offered a symbol of peace to religious exiles - the Abrahamic King had already prepared a safe place for the newly arriving Muslims and Jews in this foreign land. There are many origin stories illustrating why this city is painted blue. My favorite is that its walls are a reminder to see heaven reflected on earth.
